Is there any way to lose your salvation? This is a question that has confounded theologians and scholars for centuries. The Bible clearly states that no one can be separated from the love of God (Romans 8:39). So, if we accept that we are eternally loved by God, does that mean that once saved, always saved?

The Bible does offer us two distinct paths to salvation. The first path is through faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross. Those who accept Jesus as their Savior and abide in His grace will receive the gift of eternal life. The second path is through works. Works represent an individual’s attempt to work their way into heaven through their own efforts. Those who rely solely on their own works will not be able to enter into heaven as they have not accepted Jesus as their Savior.

Once we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, He will not take our salvation back. His grace is eternal and if we have faith in Him, our salvation is secure. However, there are some passages in the Bible that suggest that it is possible to fall away from grace and lose our salvation. For example, Hebrews 6:4-6 states that it is possible to “fall away” from God if we persistently sin and turn away from Him. Similarly, 1 John 5:16-17 states that those who “practice sin” repeatedly could become “condemned by the law” and lose their salvation.

So, while we can never lose our salvation through works, it is possible to “fall away” from grace and risk having our salvation revoked if we choose to sin against God and reject His grace. As a result, it is important for Christians to remain mindful of their behavior and strive to live in accordance with God’s Word. If we do, our salvation will remain secure for eternity.
