What do Christians Believe About Death and Dying?

Christians believe that death is not the end. Death marks a transition, when we go from this earthly life to eternity in Heaven with God. The Bible says in John 11:25-26: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?’”

This promise of eternal life with God brings comfort and hope to believers. We look forward to being reunited with loved ones and to experiencing life in its fullness with Jesus. The Bible also says in 1 Corinthians 15:20-22: “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.”

Because of this truth, Christians can have peace and joy knowing that although life here on earth can be difficult and filled with pain, it pales in comparison to the glory of eternity in Heaven.
