How Grace Impacts Christian Principles

Christians are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.Ephesians 2:8 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The doctrine of salvation by grace alone means that God freely and unmeritoriously bestows his favor on sinners; that is, those who deserve his wrath and condemnation. In other words, God shows mercy to those who don’t deserve it and whom he is not obligated to show mercy to. God does this simply because of his good and kind character. He is merciful, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Exodus 34:6).

4 Conservatives Who Impacted My Thinking on Grace

When it comes to the doctrine of salvation by grace, there are four men who have had a profound impact on my thinking. These men are Ligon Duncan, Sinclair Ferguson, R.C. Sproul, and Steve Lawson.

Richards Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mississippi. R.C. Sproul is the founder and chairman of Ligonier Ministries and the Chancellor’s Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary. In his book, The1972 Gospel, Sproul argues that the gospel can be summarized in five words: Christ died for sinners. This is the Good News that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone.

Steve Lawson is the Senior Pastor of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama and the President of OnePassion Ministries. In his book, Foundations of Grace, Lawson shows that the doctrine of salvation by grace is foundational to the Christian faith. He argues that the doctrine of salvation by grace is not an optional doctrine, but rather it is a non-negotiable doctrine.
