The Power Of Compassion In Christian Living

Christians are called to a life of compassion. “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy” (Matthew 5:7). We are to show mercy because we have received mercy. Christ died for us while we were sinners (Ephesians 2:4-5). We are to extend the same compassion to others, even our enemies (Matthew 5:44).

Compassion motivates us to reach out and help others in need. It is the main driving force behind Christian service and missions. The love of Christ compels us (2 Corinthians 5:14). We are to put others before ourselves (Philippians 2:3).

Compassion is also a key characteristic of God Himself. He is “Slow to anger, and of great mercy” (Jonah 4:2). He is “full of compassion” (Psalm 145:8). We see His compassion throughout the Bible, from His dealings with His people Israel to His sending His Son to die for our sins.

Compassion is an essential part of the Christian life. It should motivate us to reach out to others in need and to show them the love of Christ.
